Global Distribution System (GDS) Interface Overview         

RDPConnect is RDP's philosophy for maximizing the revenue our customers receive from the Global Distribution System (GDS) as well as Internet based reservation websites.  RDPConnect provides "one stop" shopping for our customers to make it as easy as possible to receive reservations from the GDS.  Elements of RDPConnect include:

Low-Cost Connectivity to the Global Distribution System (GDS)     

n addition to the commission free Internet Reservation Module, RDP offers an interface to the Global Distribution System (GDS) to load reservations from thousands of websites.  The diagram shows the relationship between RDP’s IRM and the GDS.  Items to note:

RDP Data Server

All Reservations end up in the RDP Data Server at your property without re-entry of data.

Ø       GDS reservations are automatically loaded with RDP’s GDS interface.

Ø       Owners can reserve their property for themselves or their guests using the IRM

Ø       Travel agents and guests can use either the commission free IRM <or> any of thousands of GDS powered Websites.

IRM Lowest Cost Channel

All reservations via the IRM are by far the lowest cost channel, since there are no commissions or fees paid to RDP, the GDS provider, or a third party internet Website

Owners

Owners use the RDP IRM for all Internet Access, including owner and guest of owner reservations, entering and reviewing work orders and statements, etc.

Increasing Revenue with the GDS

Over 20% of all reservations are currently made via the GDS, with an increasing percentage each year.  If you are not currently using the GDS, you are leaving a great deal of money on the table.  To get some idea of the potential of the GDS, please use the table below.  For example, if your average daily rate is $100, and the GDS generated only one reservation per week, you would increase revenue by $5,200 per year!  If you can get one reservation per day, this would be $36,500 per year.

Try the GDS for a Year and Measure the Results

Over 50% of RDP customers do not use the GDS.  We suggest all customers try the GDS for a year and measure the results.  The costs of signing up with RDP/GDS for a year are about $2500.  Think of this as an advertisement in a magazine that runs every day for a year.  The RDP system will track all revenue received from the GDS for that year on our "Source of Business" report.  If you have generated more than $2500, renew the GDS for another year.

Internet Reservation Module (IRM) for Commission Free Reservations

RDP's Internet Reservation Module (IRM) is an important element of the RDPConnect strategy as it allows millions of potential guests, groups and travel agents to check availability and make reservations 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, without any commissions.  The IRM compliments the GDS and RDPConnect as follows:

  1. Many first time visitors to your property will find the property via a travel agent or GDS powered website. If you are not on the GDS, there is no chance these potential guests will find your property.  A fee will be paid to InnLink and the travel agent to obtain this first time guest, but the fee is better than not having the guest at all!

  2. Once the guest visits the property, you should encourage the guest to book the next time using our website.  This next booking, using the Internet Reservation Module, has ZERO commissions. 

  3. RDP's Frequent Guest module can help motivate guests to book direct next time.

  4. You can improve the Visibility of your marketing website and drive more first time guests directly to your website, and the IRM, for commission free reservations.  See website visibilty below.

  5. You can use RDP's free direct e-mail marketing features to encourage guests to book direct.

Improve the Visibility of Your Marketing Website

Since the IRM that is integrated into your marketing website does not have any associated booking fees, it makes sense to drive as many potential guests as possible to your marketing website to make reservations.  A few possible ways to increase website traffic are presented below:

Customers should do everything in their power to encourage repeat guests to book directly using our marketing website.  Some tips:

  • Put the URL of your marketing website on all materials given to the guest.
  • RDP's Frequent Guest Module encourages guests to book directly.
  • Use direct e-mail to offer special deals and programs to past guests. Mass e-mail capabilities are included with the RDP System that link directly to your marketing/IRM website.
  • Some RDP customers offer an Internet-only rate that is lower than the call-in rate.  The cost savings of the fully automated IRM versus a phone call to an operator can more than make up the difference in price. There are never busy signals with the IRM, and it is open 24 hours a day.
Improve Website Search position in Google, Yahoo, and Others

One of the keys to increasing the number of Internet reservations is to improve the visibility of your marketing website.   Some ideas: 

  • Hire an internet expert to improve your marketing website "natural location" in search engines.  Natural location refers to the non-paid search order.  The tricks to improving natural placement change on a daily basis and must be revisited often.
  • Move marketing dollars from traditional advertising, such as newspaper and magazine ads, to pay-per-click in Google, Yahoo, and other search engines.
  • Use cross-listing with as many other websites as possible such as your local Chamber of Commerce.  RDP offers a free link to our Customer List.
